Automations

What are examples of business process automation?

Examples of automation cover almost every department: welcoming a new customer with an automatic email, processing an invoice without manual entry, routing an enquiry to the right person, updating stock after an order. Activepieces, Keap and Kdan, three automation tool vendors, describe more than thirty concrete examples between them. Below they are grouped by department, with the numbers each of the three gives.

What are the automation examples in sales and first contact?

A welcome email series after a first purchase is opened by close to 58% of recipients, against under 15% for an ordinary promotional email, according to an Experian study cited by Keap. Regular, educational emails to people not yet ready to buy give companies that do it well 50% more sales-ready leads, according to Marketo data also cited by Keap. An abandoned cart reminder recovers part of a lost sale. Roughly two thirds of online shoppers abandon their cart (Baymard, via Keap). Up to 63% of the abandoned value can be recovered with an automatic reminder (BI Intelligence, via Keap). An existing customer buys again with a probability of 60 to 70%, against 5 to 20% for a new prospect (the book Marketing Metrics, via Keap). This makes a repeat-purchase reminder a cheap but strong example of automation in sales.

What are the automation examples in finance and documents?

Invoice processing is a classic example. The system reads the invoice, checks it against the order and the receipt, and routes it for approval only when something does not match. Kdan reports a case with the manufacturing company CHIMEI, where automated document signing cut contract signing time from two to four weeks down to one day. The American Productivity and Quality Center, cited by Kdan, estimates that automating processes like these can cut operating costs by up to 30%.

What are the automation examples in customer service and internal teams?

A chatbot that handles a forgotten password or an order-tracking question is one of the most common examples Activepieces gives for customer service. Automatic routing of a support ticket to the right person by topic is another. The same pattern works inward too. When a job offer is accepted, a welcome email, a request for documents and account creation across systems start automatically, instead of HR doing the three by hand one at a time.

What are the automation examples in operations, warehouse and security?

Across several parallel projects, automation creates tasks, assigns them to people and sends deadline reminders, instead of a manager doing it by hand every week. In security, the system checks for updates, installs them and locks a device on suspicious behaviour, without waiting for a person to notice. In e-commerce, an order triggers a stock update, a shipping label and a tracking notice to the buyer on its own. All three examples, by Activepieces, share the same shape: a process with clear, repeating steps, where a person only watches the exceptions.

Questions

Which of the examples above is the easiest to start with?

The abandoned-cart reminder and the post-purchase welcome email are single-step, connect only a mailing platform and a store, and need no complex logic. This is why they are usually the first choice.

Does every example above have to run through AI?

No. Most of the ones listed, invoicing, reminders, ticket routing, follow fixed rules with no model inside. AI earns its place only where the answer depends on content that cannot be checked with a simple rule, such as reading free text in an email.

Which examples suit a small business with no in-house IT team?

The sales and finance examples above are usually built on a ready-made automation tool, with no need for your own server or a full-time programmer.
