Do you need maintenance if the website already works?
A working page shows a current result, not a guarantee for the months ahead. Check what could change, who would notice and the impact of interruption. That does not automatically mean every business needs a paid monthly package.
What may go unnoticed?
Mailchimp discusses security patches, plugin and theme compatibility, links and content. A software or outside-service change may affect a function you do not test by loading the homepage. Not every old version is demonstrably vulnerable, but applicable known issues need assessing.
The guide recommends at least monthly maintenance as general advice dependent on size and complexity. That is not a universally safe minimum. For an important vulnerability, assess urgency, the appropriate fix, compatibility and recovery rather than wait for a calendar review. Our service does not include routine updates and backups without a separate proposal.
When is “it loads” insufficient?
A form may accept data without the email arriving. An outside link may have changed, or service information become outdated. Marketeam identifies such checks; this does not establish an inevitable ranking decline or that every repair costs more than a subscription.
Verizon’s DBIR 2026 summary attributes 31% of breaches to software vulnerabilities as the initial route, ahead of stolen passwords. This describes breach data in the report, not the share of all websites or a probability for your business. It does not establish that updating a plugin would prevent every such attack.
What is the counter-example?
Business Automated says most systems it builds run without its ongoing involvement, though API changes may require adjustments. It recommends its own retainer of four to eight hours monthly for the first six months, followed by a decision about continuing.
This is a particular provider’s offer for its automations, not our plan or evidence that most systems need no care at all. Your team or managed platform may already handle some work. Establish what remains uncovered before buying it twice.
How do you decide for your case?
Consider separately:
- Which functions support real enquiries, orders or access to important information?
- Who checks those functions and responds to alerts?
- Who tracks the domain, the certificate’s actual expiry and successful automatic renewal?
This is not a scored yes-or-no test. A brochure site may have little transaction risk but still depend on a domain and an outside form. Select checks and responsibilities against the consequences, platform and available capacity.
Questions
How quickly does neglect show from outside?
There is no general deadline. Inaccurate content or links may accumulate gradually, while an expired certificate or stopped service may cause a sudden problem. Appearance does not measure every risk.
Does a brochure site need the same care as a shop?
Not necessarily the same tasks or frequency. Check software, data and dependencies. Taking no orders reduces particular consequences without removing every possible problem.
Can we start monitoring later?
Yes, after establishing current conditions and feasible scope. Until then, assign important functional and renewal checks. Future monitoring does not automatically establish what happened beforehand.
Is once a month enough?
Not for every task. Mailchimp’s general advice does not replace assessing importance, vulnerabilities and response needs. Reachability checks, updates and content reviews are different activities.

Describe what runs and what is already checked.
The starting inventory establishes the agreed scope and what we can monitor in the current environment. Known limitations are clarified before the service starts. This is not a full security audit or a promise to discover every risk; engagement terms are agreed separately.
